DECA members win awards in Virginia Beach

McLean students volunteered at the Stop Hunger Now event on Saturday, Oct. 31. In one day, volunteers packaged 300,000 meals that are going to feed people in need in El Salvador.  The McLean Stop Hunger Now events have now packaged a total of 1.6 million meals. (Photos courtesy of Peggy Fox)

Last weekend, the crew club earned multiple awards at the state championships at Sandy Run Park in Occaquan. The men’s lightweight 8+ boat, comprised of seniors David Kenworthy (stroke) and Connor Koch (7-seat), juniors Ryan Creeser (5-seat) and Patrick Croke (bow) and sophomores Grant Herzberg (6-seat), Jake Sechler (4-seat), Evan Korade (3-seat), Jared Lampal (2-seat) and Jake Wadle (cox), won gold in a scorching time of 4:36.2. Last month, the McLean Model UN Club went to the North American Invitational Model United Nations (NAIMUN), hosted by Georgetown University. The McLean Model UN Club took home several awards, including a gavel, and did great job at this intense 4-day conference. At the end of the 2013-14 school year, art teacher Christina Carroll’s students participated in The Memory Project, in which they made portraits for children in Nicaragua and Haiti. The McLean High School Theatre Company (MTC) earned three awards at the 15th Annual Cappies Gala conducted in the Kennedy Center’s Concert Hall, Sunday June 8. The Cappies, “Critics and Awards Program,” is a program through which high school theatre and journalism students are trained as critics, attend shows at other schools, write reviews, and publish those reviews in local media.
