Swim and Dive:   The boys finished second, behind a powerful Langley team but ahead of both Yorktown and Madison (who beat them in the regular season).  The girls finished strong, missing out on a second place finish by one point.  Everyone swam/dove very well, but here are some highlights:

Senior Caroline McCleary earned a Conference championship in dive.  This is her third consecutive title.  Her score this year was again high enough to earn her All-American consideration. Junior Delaney Gallagher placed 3rd, and sophomore Hanna Farson placed 6th—personal bests for each girl.

Sophomore Bobby Trono finished 7th in an incredibly talented field (the top two divers had scores over 500—they are both nationally ranked).

Junior Chris Murphy won both of his events: the 100 free and the 100 backstroke.  He also set two new conference records. Sophomore Carter Flint won the 100 breaststroke, also setting a new conference record.

McLean had three boys in the top six finishers in the 100 breaststroke—in addition to Carter, freshman Sam Gollob and sophomore Timothy “Dorje” Wu.  All three of these young men have already qualified for the state championship in this event.

Our Marching Band performed in the Bands of America Regional Championship in Monroeville, Pennsylvania, last weekend. Their competitive show this year is titled “Pure Imagination” and is an exciting medley of childhood fantasy favorites such as “Somewhere Over the Rainbow,” “Pure Imagination,” “Flight of the Bumblebee” and Danny Elfman’s music from Edward Scissorhands. In the Finals competition, McLean earned 8th place with a score of 64.40.

We are extremely proud of the Highlander Marching Band and band director Mr. Chris Weise.

McLean’s Symphonic Band and Percussion Ensemble were both invited to participate in the Music for All National Concert Band Festival this March in Indianapolis, one of the highest honors for a high school band program—only the top 16 groups in the country are invited to participate.

Be sure to support the band members and directors as they prepare to present an hour-long performance at this festival!
